{blacksquare} Alfred G. Knudson Jr., M.D., Ph.D., of Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, has been named winner of a 2004 Kyoto Prize, a lifetime achievement award given to those who have "contributed significantly to mankind's benefit." Knudson, who is being honored for his role in establishing the theory of tumor suppressor genes, will receive a cash gift of about $450,000 (50 million yen), the gold Kyoto Prize medal, and a diploma at the Kyoto Prize ceremony . . .
