Five researchers received the General Motors Cancer Research Foundation Awards in early June.
The Alfred P. Sloan Jr. Prize was awarded to Avram Hershko, M.D., Ph.D., professor of biochemistry, TechnionIsrael Institute of Technology; and Alexander J. Varshavsky, Ph.D., professor of cell biology, California Institute of Technology, for the discovery of the ubiquitin system for protein degradation and the crucial functions of this system in cellular regulation.
