Awards, Appointments, Announcements

  • Sameer A. Patel, M.D., has joined Fox Chase Cancer Center's department of surgical oncology. Patel specializes in plastic and reconstructive surgery. Kristin Wolcott Edwards, M.D., has joined the department of radiology at Fox Chase. Edwards has a special interest in abdominal imaging. And Crystal S. Delinger, M.D., has joined the department of medical oncology, specializing in breast cancer.
  • Andrew M. Lowy, M.D., has joined the University of California, San Diego's Moores Cancer Center and School of Medicine. He will launch a multidisciplinary surgical program dedicated to the comprehensive treatment of cancer, particularly pancreatic and colon cancer.
  • Nancy C. Andrews, M.D., Ph.D., has been named dean of the Duke University School of Medicine. Prior to her appointment, Andrews was dean of basic sciences and graduate studies at Harvard Medical School.
  • The Association of American Cancer Institutes has elected Michael A. Caligiuri, M.D., director of the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center, as the vice president and president-elect. Donald Trump, M.D., president and CEO at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, has been elected to the board of directors.
  • The Southwest Oncology Group has appointed Frank L. Meyskens, Jr., M.D., as its new associate chair of cancer control and prevention.
  • Deborah Armstrong, M.D., associate professor in oncology, has been awarded the Rosalind Franklin Excellence in Ovarian Cancer Research Award for her efforts to enhance treatment options and women's understanding of ovarian cancer.
  • William Greene, Pharm.D., has joined the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital faculty as its new chief pharmaceutical officer.
  • David Schottenfeld, M.D., the John G. Searle Professor Emeritus of Epidemiology at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, will receive the John Snow Award at the annual meeting of the American Public Health Association in Washington, D.C.
  • Fox Chase Cancer Center has named J. Robert Beck, M.D., as the center's first chief academic officer. Beck formerly served as deputy director of the population science division and as vice president for information services and chief information officer at Fox Chase.
