Awards, Appointments, Announcements

  • Walter J. Curran Jr., M.D., professor and chair of radiation oncology at Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, has been named deputy director of clinical science at the Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson.
  • Angela M.H. Brodie, Ph.D., of Greenebaum Cancer Center and V. Craig Jordan, Ph.D., D.Sc., of Fox Chase Cancer Center were the 2007 recipients of the Gregory Pincus Award and Medal from the Worcester Foundation for Biomedical Research/University of Massachusetts Medical School. The award recognizes their research developing antihormonal therapy for breast cancer.
  • Kosair Charities announced they will give $12 million over six years to create the Kosair Charities Pediatric Cancer Research Center at the University of Louisville's James Graham Brown Cancer Center. The goal of the center is to develop new drugs that target childhood cancers.
  • The University of California, San Francisco Palliative Care Program has been named by the American Hospital Association as one of the top three programs nationwide for its efforts to provide end-of-life care. The program received the AHA annual Circle of Life Award in July.
