Awards, Appointments, Announcements

{blacksquare} Michael Simon, M.D., was appointed to the African American National Advisory Council by the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Simon currently works at the Karmanos Cancer Institute and is a professor at Wayne State University in Detroit.

{blacksquare} Steven M. Larson, M.D., was elected to the Institute of Medicine, a position that honors achievement in the health sciences. Larson is chief of the nuclear science medicine service at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

{blacksquare} Christopher P. Evans, M.D., was appointed chair of the urology department at the University of California–Davis School of Medicine. He has been on the faculty of UC Davis since 1997.

{blacksquare} Jonathan D. Licht, M.D., was appointed associate director for clinical sciences and chief of hematology and oncology at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University in Chicago.

{blacksquare} Lisa Diller, M.D., was appointed chief medical officer of Dana-Farber/Children's Hospital Cancer Care and clinical director of pediatric oncology at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Children's Hospital Boston. Diller is an associate professor of pediatrics at Harvard Medical School.

{blacksquare} David W. Boyer was appointed assistant commissioner for legislation of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Boyer currently works in the department of Health and Human Services.

{blacksquare} Neal Flomenberg, M.D., received the Service to Mankind award from the regional Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Flomenberg works at Thomas Jefferson University and the Kimmel Cancer Center in Philadelphia.

{blacksquare} Scott Antonia, M.D., was given the National Italian American Foundation's special achievement award. Antonia works at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute in Ybor City, Fla.

{blacksquare} Linda Burhansstipanov, M.S.P.H., Dr.P.H.; Harold P. Freeman, M.D.; and Barry Stein, Esq. were honored by the Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation for outstanding achievement in advancing cancer research and prevention.
