Kelli Bullard Dunn, M.D., was appointed to the Gastrointestinal Service in the Department of Surgical Oncology and to the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, N.Y. Dunn will also serve as associate professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Buffalo.
Paul Flint, M.D., was named the first Charles W. Cummings, M.D., Professor in the Johns Hopkins University Department of OtolaryngologyHead and Neck Surgery.
Scott Antonia, M.D., Ph.D., was named the 2005 Physician of the Year for the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute. Antonia is co-leader of the Immunology Program and associate professor in the Department of Interdisciplinary Oncology at the Center.
The Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Institute in New York recently honored three of its members. Alan Hall, Ph.D., was named chairman of the Cell Biology Program in the Sloan-Kettering Institute. Samuel D. J. Yeh, M.D., was named a Member Emeritus of Memorial Sloan-Kettering. Ronald G. Blasberg, M.D., was given an honorary doctorate in medical science from the University of Copenhagen for his work in neurology and neurooncology.
Mary B. Daly, M.D., of the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, was appointed senior vice president of the population science division and given the first Timothy R. Talbot Jr. Chair in Cancer Research. Daly has been with Fox Chase since 1989.
Joan Bailey-Wilson, Ph.D., and Alexander Wilson, Ph.D., were appointed co-chiefs of the Inherited Disease Research Branch at the National Human Genome Research Institute in Bethesda, Md. Bailey-Wilson currently heads the Statistical Genetics Section, and Wilson currently heads the Genometrics Section in the Inherited Disease Research Branch at the institute.
Christopher Portier, Ph.D., was honored as the new associate director for risk assessment at the National Institutes of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) in Bethesda, Md. Portier has worked with the NIEHS since 1981.
Joan Massagué, Ph.D., of the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, was awarded the inaugural Vilcek Prize in Biomedical Research. Massagué currently serves as the program chairman for Cancer Biology and Genetics at Sloan-Kettering. He will receive $50,000 for his achievements in cancer research.
Ian Frazer, M.D., of the University of Queensland, was awarded the Australian of the Year award for developing a vaccine to prevent cervical cancer.
J. Robert "Bob" Beck, M.D., was appointed deputy director of the population science division at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia.
David L. Bartless, M.D., was named the inaugural Bernard Fisher Professor of Surgery by the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Bartlett has been a member of the school's faculty since 2001 and is the director of the David C. Koch Regional Perfusion Cancer Therapy Center at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute.
City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center in Duarte, Calif., recently made three faculty appointments. Smita Bhatia, M.D., was appointed professor and chair of the division of population sciences and associate director of the cancer center. Yun Yen, M.D., Ph.D., was named director of the Department of Clinical and Molecular Pharmacology in City of Hope's division of medical oncology and therapeutics research. Ravi Bhatia, M.D., was appointed director of City of Hope's Department of Hematopoietic Stem Cell and Leukemia Research, and co-director of the hematological malignancies program.
