Awards, Appointments, Announcements

{blacksquare} Martin Abeloff, M.D., was awarded the Marion I. Knott directorship and professorship of oncology at the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center. Abeloff has been director of the center since 1992.

{blacksquare} Naoyuki G. Saito, M.D., Ph.D., was presented with a Young Investigator Award by the American Society for Clinical Oncology. With the award, Saito receives a 1-year $35,000 research grant. Saito works at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY.

{blacksquare} Anna T. Meadows, M.D., was awarded the 2006 Pediatric Oncology Award from the American Society for Clinical Oncology. Meadows is medical director of the cancer survivorship program at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, PA.

{blacksquare} John Mendelsohn, M.D., of the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, and Joseph Schlessinger, Ph.D., of Tel Aviv University in Israel and the Yale Cancer Center in New Haven, Conn., were awarded the Dan David Prize for human achievement. Mendelsohn's work has led to effective treatment for advanced colorectal cancer. Schlessinger's research has lead to drugs for advanced kidney cancer and a rare form of stomach cancer.
