Awards, Appointments, Announcements
Michael Stefanek, Ph.D., was named vice president of the American Cancer Society's Behavioral Research Center. Stefanek previously worked at the National Cancer Institute in the cancer control and population sciences division.
K. Thomas Robbins, M.D., was appointed director of the SimmonsCooper Cancer Institute at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. Robbins joined SIU in 2003 as a professor in the otolaryngologyhead and neck surgery division.
The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center was awarded the Small Business Administration's Dwight D. Eisenhower Award. The award focuses on accomplishments in research and development, and this marks the first time a cancer center has received the award.
Boris D. Lushniak, M.D., was promoted from assistant commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration to Assistant Surgeon General and Rear Admiral in the commissioned corps of the United States Public Health Service.
Harold F. Dvorak, M.D., received the Albert Szent-Gyorgyi Prize for progress in cancer research from the National Foundation for Cancer Research. Dvorak currently works at Harvard Medical School.
