Awards, Appointments, Announcements

{blacksquare} The Yale Cancer Center in New Haven, Conn., has made several appointments:

M. Wasif Saif, M.D., an expert in gastrointestinal cancers, has been appointed associate professor of medicine in the section of medical oncology.

Two breast cancer specialists, Maysa M. Abu-Khalaf, M.D., and James J. Lee, M.D., Ph.D., have been named assistant professors of medicine in the section of medical oncology. They will focus on the development of novel treatment strategies for patients with metastatic breast cancer.

W. Kevin Kelly, D.O., has been named an associate professor of medicine in the section of medical oncology and associate director of solid tumor clinical investigation and will head the genitourinary cancer program.

Lynn D. Wilson, M.D., an associate professor of therapeutic radiation at the center, has been named chairman and clinical director of the Department of Therapeutic Radiation.

{blacksquare} Robert Blumenthal, Ph.D., has been appointed director of the National Cancer Institute's new Center for Cancer Research Nanobiology Program.

{blacksquare} Christian Abee, D.V.M., has been named director of the Michale E. Keeling Center for Comparative Medicine and Research and chair of the Department of Veterinary Sciences at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center's facility in Bastrop.

{blacksquare} The H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute in Tampa, Fla., has made several appointments:

Sachin M. Apte, M.D., has been named an assistant professor and a member of the Gynecologic Oncology Program.

Tawee Tanvetyanon, M.D., has been appointed a medical oncologist in the Thoracic Oncology Program. Tanvetyanon also serves as an assistant professor of medicine and oncology at the University of South Florida Medical College.

Adil I. Daud, M.D., has been named medical director of affiliate research. Daud joined Moffitt's cutaneous oncology and gastrointestinal tumor programs in 2001.
