Awards, Appointments, Announcements

{blacksquare} Polly Newcomb, Ph.D., was named director of the Cancer Prevention Program at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle. She took over the post after its former director, John Potter, M.D., Ph.D., was appointed director of Fred Hutchinson’s Public Health Sciences Division.

{blacksquare} I. Benjamin Paz, M.D., was appointed director of the Department of General Oncological Surgery at the City of Hope National Medical Center, Duarte, Calif. Paz also serves as director of the Breast Center at City of Hope’s Rita Cooper Finkel and J. William Finkel Women’s Health Center and vice-chair of the Division of Surgery.

{blacksquare} David Botstein, Ph.D., received the Sebastian George Memorial Award for his work in developing genomic technology applications to treat breast cancer and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Botstein, who is the director of Princeton University’s Lewis Sigler Institute of Integrative Genomics, received the award at the Symposium on Genomics in Clinical Oncology, which was held in February and jointly sponsored by the Medical Association of Southern California and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

{blacksquare} Clifford Schold Jr., M.D., has been appointed chair of the Department of Interdisciplinary Oncology and associate center director for clinical affairs at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute, Tampa, Fla. Schold was previously the associate vice chancellor for clinical research, director of neuro-oncology, and professor of neurology at the University of Pittsburgh.
