Awards, Appointments, Announcements
William T. Schimdt, J.D., has been named chief operating officer of the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship.Schmidt is former vice president of public affairs for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International. He also served as director of government affairs for the Epilepsy Foundation of America.
New Appointments at Roswell Park
Joyce M. Yasko, Ph.D., has been appointed director of clinical research services at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, New York. She was previously associate director of the Clinical and Network Programs at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute. She is also professor emeritus at the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing
Todd L. Demmy, M.D., has been appointed chief of the Thoracic Surgery Division at RPCI. He was previously at the University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics where he served as chief of thoracic oncology, associate and co-director of surgery and cardiothoracic surgery, and co-director of the Cardiac Transplants Program.
Boris W. Kuvshinoff II, M.D., was appointed to the Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery at Roswell Park. He was previously at the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center in Columbia, Mo., where he served as chief of the Section of Hepatobiliary and Pancreas Tumors. He also served as interim chief in the Division of Surgical Oncology at the University of Missouri HealthCare.
Secretariat Installed
The International Society of Oncology Pharmacy Practitioners installed its Secretariat at the Eighth International Symposium on Oncology Pharmacy Practice in Vancouver Canada in May.
Officers include: president, Barry Goldspiel, Pharm.D., National Institutes of Health; president-elect, Graham Sewell, Pharm.D., University of Bath, United Kingdom; treasurer, Thomas Garms, Pharm.D., AK Harburg, Hamburg, Germany; secretary, Robert J. Ignoffo, Pharm.D., University of California San Francisco; and secretariat members: Jill Davis, A&RMC, Victoria, Australia; Franca Goffredo, Istituto per la Ricerca e al Cura, Torino, Italy; Camille Groos, Clinique Ste Elisabeth, Luxembourg; and Saad Othman, School of Pharmaceutical Services, Universiti Sains, Malaysia.
Two Join Wilmot Cancer Center
Steven Bernstein, M.D., was named associate professor of hematology/oncology at the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center. He was previously at Roswell Park Cancer Center in Buffalo, N.Y., and specializes in lymphoproliferative and plasma cell disorders.

Jonathan Friedberg, M.D., will also be joining the staff at James P. Wilmot Cancer Center. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and fellowships at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School.
