Awards, Appointments, Announcements
Caryn E. Lerman, Ph.D., has been named associate director for Cancer Control and Population Science at the University of Pennsylvania Cancer Center, Philadelphia, and director of the Tobacco Research Program at the Leonard & Madlyn Abramson Family Cancer Research Institute.

Lerman was a professor of psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Prior to joining the University of Pennsylvania, Lerman was at the Lombardi Cancer Center at Georgetown Medical Center, Washington, D.C., where she was associate director for Cancer Control and Population Science.
Lerman serves on the Board of Scientific Advisers of the National Cancer Institute.
Roswell Park Appoints Three
Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Buffalo, N.Y., has made three faculty appointments to its Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics.
David Goodrich, Ph.D., was at the Department of Molecular and Cellular Oncology, University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston. His research focuses on cell cycle control and apoptosis gene therapy strategies.
Fengzhi Li, Ph.D., was at the Department of Pathology, Yale University, New Haven, Conn. His research focuses on the role of anti-apoptotic proteins in cancer treatment.
Athena Wen-Chuan Lin, Ph.D., was previously at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y. Her research focuses on oncogene-mediated signaling in cell cycle control, activation of tumor suppressors in response to oncogenic stimuli, and mechanisms of oncogenic ras-initiated carcinomas.
Loscalzo Awarded
Matt Loscalzo was presented the City of Hope Cancer Centers Sarnat Distinguished Humanitarian Award.
Loscalzo is co-director of the Cancer Pain Service at the Johns Hopkins Oncology Center. The award was given to him for his work in the field of palliative care and pain management.
Rosenblum Named
The Fox Chase Cancer Center has named Norman G. Rosenblum, M.D., Ph.D., chief of Gynecologic Oncology in the Department of Surgical Oncology.
Rosenblum is also a clinical associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.
Mong Named
BioStratum Incorporated, Research Triangle Park, N.C., has named Seymour Mong, Ph.D., vice president of research.
Mong was previously vice president of biotechnology and is a co-founder of Structural Bioinformatics. He has held positions at Fujisawa Pharmaceutical, Osaka, Japan, and SmithKline & French Laboratory.
