Awards, Appointments, Announcements
The Wisconsin Medical Alumni Association awarded its 2001 Emeritus Faculty Awards to Paul P. Carbone, M.D., and Henry C. Pitot, M.D., Ph.D.

Carbone was the director of the University of Wisconsin Comprehensive Cancer Center from 1978 to 1997. He was chief of clinical oncology at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics, and he chaired the medical schools Department of Human Oncology. He also headed the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group for 20 years and was president of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Association for Cancer Research.
Pitot was director of the McArdle Laboratory for Cancer Research from 1973 to 1991. He has also served as chair of the Department of Pathology and as acting dean of the University of Wisconsin Medical School. He served on the Presidents Cancer Panel and was chair of the National Cancer Advisory Board.
Siteman Earns NCI Designation
The Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center at Washington University School of Medicine and Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, has been recognized as a National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center.
Siteman Cancer Center is the only institution in Missouri to receive the designation. The center will expand this fall when the Center for Advanced Medicine opens.
Holiday Cards Available
The Childrens Art Project at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center has items from its Holiday 2001 collection available for purchase.
The collection includes holiday cards, neckties, bracelets, scarves, and t-shirts. The products are all designed by children ages 4 to 18 years who are patients at the cancer center.
