AACR Accepting Nominations, Applications

The American Association for Cancer Research is accepting nominations for the second AACR-National Foundation for Cancer Research Professorship in Basic Cancer Research. The deadline for receipt of nominations is September 10, 2001.

This 2-year professorship recognizes a senior scientist at the level of associate professor or professor who is engaged in active research and who has demonstrated extraordinary achievement in basic cancer research.

It provides a 2-year grant of $50,000 per year in salary support. There are no citizenship or residency requirements.

AACR is also accepting applications for its 2002 research fellowships for postdoctoral or clinical fellows and career development awards for scientists at the level of assistant professor. There are no geographical or residency requirements for these fellowships and awards. The application deadline is November 1, 2001.

The AACR-Gertrude B. Elion Cancer Research Award and the AACR Career Development Awards in Cancer Research are for tenure-tracked scientists at the level of assistant professor at an academic institution anywhere in the world. The research award carries a grant of $50,000. Candidates must have completed postdoctoral studies or clinical fellowships no later than July 1 of the award year (2002) and ordinarily not more than 5 years earlier (1997). The career development awards are 2-year awards of $50,000 per year.

AACR Research Fellowships provide one-year grants of $30,000 to early career scientists in basic, translational, and clinical cancer research. In 2002, AACR will award five research fellowships to support salary and benefits for postdoctoral and clinical fellows. Candidates must have been a fellow for at least 2 years (since July 2000) but not more than 5 years (since July 1997) prior to the beginning of the award year.
