Awards, Appointments, Announcements
The American Legion Auxiliary named Ellen Stovall, executive director of the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship, the 2000 Woman of the Year.

Stovall organized The March, a public awareness and grassroots campaign designed to educate people about cancer and bring about positive public policies. The campaign culminated with a march in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 26, 1998.
In 1996, President Clinton appointed Stovall to a 6-year term on the National Cancer Advisory Board. She also serves on the board of directors for the Cure for Lymphoma Foundation. Stovall is a 28-year survivor of Hodgkins disease.
The National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship was founded in 1986 as an advocacy organization for all cancer survivors. It has grown into a nationwide network of independent organizations and individuals working in the areas of cancer support, education, and advocacy.
The American Legion Auxiliary, a volunteer organization of one million women, presented Stovall with the award Sept. 5 at the organizations annual convention in Milwaukee.
Schold Named
Clifford Schold, M.D., has joined the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute to direct the Neuro-oncology Program.

He will also co-direct the institutes Brain Tumor Center and hold appointments of professor in the Division of Hematology/Oncology, Department of Medicine, and in the Department of Neurology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
Schold was previously the director for neurosciences at Duke Clinical Research Institute.
Sandler Appointed
Alan B. Sandler, M.D., has joined the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, Nashville, as associate professor of medicine, medical director of thoracic oncology, and director of Vanderbilt-Ingrams Affiliate Network Program.
Sandler comes to Vanderbilt from Indiana University Medical Center, where he was associate professor of medicine in the Division of Hematology-Oncology. He joined Vanderbilts Division of Hematology/Oncology in June. He is a member of the Thoracic Oncology Committee of the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group.
CEO Appointed
The National Marrow Donor Program, Minneapolis, has appointed Jeffrey W. Chell, M.D., as its new chief executive officer.

Chell previously served as president and chairman of the board of the Allina Medical Clinic and as system vice president for clinical services of the Allina Health System, Minneapolis.
The National Marrow Donor Program is a nonprofit organization that facilitates unrelated marrow and blood stem cell transplants for patients with life-threatening blood diseases who do not have matching donors in their families.
