Eye-Catching Spinoff

In the United Kingdom, where many volunteers staff the secondhand shops run by the two major cancer charities, the Cancer Research Campaign has invented a glamorous spinoff. The campaign puts on a recycled fashion show, in which design students compete to create the most original and eye-popping outfits out of rags and unsaleable items from CRC shops. The annual event attracts a large audience, including top designers and supermodels, and generates ample press coverage featuring photos of the often-outlandish fashions.
