Awards, Appointments, Announcements

The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) will honor several cancer researchers at its annual meeting in San Diego, Calif.
  • Nancy E. Davidson, M.D., professor of oncology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, has been awarded the AACR-Women in Cancer Research-Charlotte Friend Memorial Lectureship.
  • Arthur Gutierrez-Hartmann, M.D., professor of medicine and of biochemistry and molecular genetics at the University of Colorado Cancer Center, will receive the AACR-Minorities in Cancer Research-Jane Cooke Wright Lectureship.
  • Sydney Brenner, Ph.D., professor at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, is the recipient of the AACR-Irving Weinstein Foundation Distinguished Lectureship.
  • John E. Dick, Ph.D., professor of medical genetics and microbiology at the University of Toronto, will receive the 48th Annual AACR-G.H.A. Clowes Memorial Award.
  • Jose Baselga, M.D., director of medical oncology, hematology, and radiation oncology at Vall d’Hebron University Hospital, has been awarded the AACR-Rosenthal Family Foundation Award.
  • Robert N. Hoover, M.D., Sc.D., director of the epidemiology and biostatistics program at the National Cancer Institute, will receive the AACR-American Cancer Society Award for Research Excellence in Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention.
  • Joseph R. Bertino, M.D., interim director and chief scientific officer at The Cancer Institute of New Jersey, has been awarded the AACR-Joseph H. Burchenal Memorial Award for Outstanding Achievements in Clinical Research.
  • Arul Chinnaiyan, M.D., Ph.D., professor of pathology and urology at the University of Michigan Medical School, is the recipient of the 28th Annual AACR Award for Outstanding Achievement in Cancer Research.
  • Steven R. Tannenbaum, Ph.D., professor of toxicology and chemistry at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, has been awarded the AACR-CICR Award for Outstanding Achievement in Chemistry in Cancer Research.
  • Ellen V. Sigal, Ph.D., chairperson of Friends of Cancer Research, has been named the second recipient of the AACR Margaret Foti Award for Leadership and Extraordinary Achievements in Cancer Research.
  • Lawrence A. Loeb, M.D., Ph.D., professor of pathology and biochemistry at the University of Washington, is the recipient of the AACR Princess Takamatsu Memorial Lectureship.
  • Daniel Pinkel, Ph.D., senior scientist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and his research team will receive the AACR Team Science Award.
