Awards, Appointments, Announcements

• Several members of the cancer research community were elected as members of the Institute of Medicine this year: Webster K. Cavenee, Ph.D., director of the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research and professor of medicine at the University of California, San Diego; Andrew P. Feinberg, M.D., professor of medicine, molecular biology, and genetics and of oncology at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine; Patricia A. Ganz, M.D., professor of health services and of medicine at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine and director cancer prevention and control research at the UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center; Ellen R. Gritz, Ph.D., professor and chair of the department of behavioral science at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center; William G. Kaelin Jr., M.D., Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator and professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute; Theodore S. Lawrence, M.D., Ph.D., professor and chair of the department of radiation oncology at the University of Michigan Medical School; and Ronald Levy, M.D., professor and chief of the division of oncology at Stanford University School of Medicine.

Arnold L. Potosky, Ph.D., has been named director of health services research at Georgetown's Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Victor G. Vogel, M.D., professor of medicine and epidemiology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, has been named as the American Cancer Society's new national vice president for research. He will succeed Jerome W. Yates, M.D.
