Awards, Appointments, Announcements

  • Eric M. Horwitz, M.D., vice chairman and clinical director of the radiation oncology department at Fox Chase Cancer Center, has been elected vice-president of the American Brachytherapy Society.
  • Anne Cress, Ph.D., and Georg Wondrak, Ph.D., researchers at the Arizona Cancer Center, have been selected as the 2008 recipients of the Sydney E. Salmon, M.D., distinguished senior investigator award and distinguished junior investigator award, respectively.
  • Janet Davidson Rowley, M.D., geneticist and cancer researcher at the University of Chicago, was one of the recipients of the UCSF Medal from the University of California, San Francisco.
  • Lawrence Marks, M.D., has been appointed chair of the department of radiation oncology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine.
  • Camille P. Wicher, Esq., has been appointed vice president of corporate ethics and research subject protection at Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
  • Monica Morrow, M.D., has joined the staff of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center as chief of the breast service in the department of surgery.
  • Simon N. Powell, M.D., Ph.D., has been named chair of the department of radiation oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and will have a joint appointment in the Center's molecular biology program.
  • Eric Cottington, Ph.D., has been named vice president for research resources management at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He will oversee the office of sponsored projects, research administration, and the office of industrial affairs.
  • Peter Shields, M.D., will serve as chair for the American Cancer Society's government relations and policy committee for the District of Columbia. He also serves as interim academic chair of medicine and professor of oncology at Georgetown University and deputy director of the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center.
