Lee et al. (1) recently reported the results of a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in small cell lung cancer combining the anti-angiogenic drug thalidomide with carboplatin and etoposide chemotherapy. The addition of thalidomide to the chemotherapy regimen was associated with decreased survival of patients with extensive disease and increased risk of thromboembolic events (TEE). . . .
