The Journal recently published a study analyzing the role of sequence variation of genes involved in steroid hormone metabolism in the serum sex hormone levels of postmenopausal women (1). This study concluded that CYP19 and SBGH polymorphisms contribute to the variability in circulating sex hormones in postmenopausal women, although CYP19 or SHBG polymorphisms are only marginally related to breast cancer susceptibility.
