Report Outlines Plan to Reform Cancer Care in Australia

Correcting several major deficiencies in the way cancer care services are delivered will improve the survival and quality of life of people living with cancer, according to the new report, Optimizing Cancer Care in Australia (OCCA).

Fifteen months in the making, the report canvassed the views of 138 representativesconsumers, oncologists, professional colleges, health care managers, and government and nongovernment agenciesand took into account evidence-based care practices and international reforms. The report, which offers 12 recommendations for areas of improvement in the cancer care system, was jointly prepared by the Clinical Oncological Society of Australia (COSA), The Cancer Council Australia (TCCA), and the National Cancer Control Initiative (NCCI).
