High Gene Mutation Rate May Contribute to Hereditary Skin Cancers

Researchers have discovered a high rate of ultraviolet light (UV)-inducible mutations among people with hereditarybut not sporadicmelanoma, a finding that may explain why people genetically predisposed to this deadly skin cancer are particularly sensitive to sun exposure. Details of the new study appear in the June 4 issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.
