A new study suggests that cigarette smoking and alcohol intake may reverse potential benefits that the vitamin A precursor beta-carotene has on reducing the risk of colorectal polyp recurrence. Colorectal polyps, or adenomas, are benign tumors that may develop into colorectal cancer. The new study appears in the May 21 issue of the Journal
