Harold Varmus, M.D., president of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York, received the Vannevar Bush Award for lifetime achievement in science and public service.Varmus, a Nobel laureate, is the former director of the National Institutes of Health. The award is presented by the National Science Board and is named for the former director of the U.S. Office of Scientific Research and Development.
Pandolfi Honored
Pier Paolo Pandolfi, Ph.D., was presented with the Sergio Lombroso Award in Cancer Research.
Pandolfi is the head of the Sloan-Kettering Institutes Molecular and Developmental Biology Laboratory.
