Keio University, Tokyo, recently named two scientists to receive the 1999 Keio Medical Sciences Prize. Elizabeth H. Blackburn, Ph.D., and Shinya Yoshikawa, M.D., will each receive a certificate, a medal and $191,000.
Blackburn of the University of California, San Francisco, was described as a leader in the area
of telomere and telomerase research. Yoshikawa was credited with elucidating, with co-workers,
the complete three-dimensional structure of
